MacBook Nano, Better Than MacBook Air?
Well, this concept MacBook Nano you can see below seems to be work of the fellows from Stuff magazine, also responsible for that beautiful PSP Phone I’ve shown you the other day. This may be a conceptual device, but I have two questions for you: what’s with all the hype surrounding it and why is the text around it written in Czech?
Everyone seems agitated after seeing the photo on Flickr, but why? Was it announced and I missed it? Is that DVD drive so important it’s worth dying for? Or is it the touchscreen and familiar UI making the word go out? I doubt that Apple can still squeeze an optical drive into such a small device and since they’re keen on flash memory anyway, there’ no reason to go back to such options.

PlayStation Power on an iPhone-like Device, branded Nvidia
You might already know that Nvidia showcased its latest chipset during the Mobile World Congress 2008 at Barcelona and it seemed to be running smoothly on a neat and good-looking device. It even faced the challenge of being connected to a 60 inch plasma screen display graphics that would even make a PlayStation console jealous.
The fact is that Nvidia’s new device powered by the APX 2500 chip managed to run a high definition H.264 720p version of Monsters Inc. on the above-mentioned plasma screen. Place this baby at the heart of an iPhone and we’ve got pure gold and a device that’s good enough to bury any PSP Phone out there. In case you’re interested, here are the specs of Nvidia handset: Windows Mobile OS and a 65nm chip composed of 4 parts.

Yahoo Phone… Brand or Concept?
While the Google Phone is somewhat closer to becoming a real device, the YahooPhone or the YPhone is barely a trademark, which belongs to wireless phone developer Hop-on Inc. from February 5, this year. Anything associated to this brand is also under their trademark, so Yahoo! are up for one neat legal action if they’re going to release a beauty like that.
We might as well be dealing with a company that will develop Yahoo! phone, but given the reputation of Hop-on and its passion for trademark/patent disputes, I highly doubt it. Just hope that Yahoo! won’t “pull a Skype” on us and announce/release the phone all of a sudden without too much fuss.

Couple-IT is a Dual-Device Concept
We’ve heard about dual-touchscreen devices, about dual-SIM handets and even about phones that can use up to 3 SIMs, but a dual-device is surely new for us. Couple-IT is basically a twin gadget, that includes a dual-touchscreen cellphone and a laptop-style smartphone, introduced for the first time at Mobile World Congress 2008, in Barcelona.
Each of them uses a SIM, but all of your content and information will be stored on both devices, as they’re permanently synchronized with the aid of the network in use. This concept was created by Alloy and it seems to be a sollution for those seeking an alternative to the Palm Foleo, or just another companion to ease your work. The dual-touchscreen handset is a clamshell device, while the “mini-laptop” is an ultracompact smartphone.
Truth be told I fancy the clamshell phone more than the smartphone, as I was never a fan of companion devices and PDAs, in the era of handset shrinkage and slimmer phones.

Samsung Gaming Phone Takes on the N-Gage and PSP Phone
Still recovering from the shock of almost seeing a real PSP Phone, we stumble upon yet another piece of info announcing a gaming cellphone. This time we’re dealing with a patent showing a Samsung device, surprisingly enough a clamshell that has nothing to do with the PSP Phone or any N-Gage-based handset.
Forget the PSP Phone and any attempt at turning Nokia phones into real gaming devices, as Samsung’s got a new idea and a cool patent. This clamshell features an inner display that’s not fixed, being able to swing and reveal a set of gaming controls. That leaves enough room for an extra speaker and allows gamers to play in landscape mode, if portrait doesn’t do it for them.
Ergonomics and control are surely going to be a problem in the case of this device… I can’t see myself handling the control system easily and I bet that the fragile display will at some point get broken, since you can toy with it so much. What’s your take on this patent?

Portable Concept Speakers for Your iPhone
LiveSpeakR is the latest concept portable speaker system that will turn your iPhone into a genuine boombox. It’s been introduced by D&G solutions and it was created by Erik Groset. This device runs on 2 AAA batteries or gets its “juice” with the aid of an AC adapter.
The speakers you see above can rotate and expand/contract as you switch from portrait to landscape mode and back. What’s neat about this system is that the accessories can even fit inside your pocket, taking portable fun to a new level. Don’t be sad about the fact that this is only a concept, since D&G Solutions are looking for a manufacturer to mass-produce LiveSpeakR.
Think we’ll see these speakers hitting the market in time for the summer holiday?
PS: Family Guy Rocks! (couldn’t help it)

Atlas Kinetic Cellphone Concept Is “Mobilis in Mobile”
It may be a beauty but does it have features to match its design? This good-looking concept phone was created by Ricardo Baiao, who manages to blend a modern style with the green technology that’s so hip lately, specially since Nokia
The Atlas phone is made of aluminium and glass and its central glassy surface is made out of (surprise, surprise) sapphire glass. This concept device is powered by kinetic energy, just like many modern watches, using an “oscillating weight to power a mainspring” as the designer states.
Atlas many not have the multimedia features (or at least mid-range features) you were hoping for, but it’s good for one thing: keeping its owner in motion. Stay put for too long and the device’s power will run out, making you have to turn the handset up and down in order to get the kinetic rotors going.

SaY Mobile Phone is One Funky Fresh Concept
Bluemapdesign introduces a pretty good-looking concept phone, named SaY and it’s (according to the designers) a mobile phone that “expresses an open-minded attitude”. Well, open your mind to this cool-coloured handset below:
The SaY concept features a rubberized body plus glossy keypad and a 4 megapixel camera. It’s also got stereo speakers, arranged in a pretty original pattern. Bluemapdesign’s device is a trendsetter’s perfect gift and seemingly an ideal multimedia device, provided the handset has all the needed features underneath that beautiful skin.

Bellperre Phone Brings the Crocodile Leather Luxury to Your Pocket
At first glance I thought that the phone from the image below is ugly, but some of you are easily impressed by the fact that a handset can really be made out of steel, gold, hardwood and … crocodile leather. How’s that for a fashion phone, courtesy of Bellperre?
Also, it seems that these Bellperre phones will be customized according to the customers’ preferences, you know, just like putting some extra ketchup on a burger:

Duros Tablet PC, The Hulk of Tablets
Ever wanted to go to the North Pole or to the centre of the Earth and blog from there? Well, you’re lucky I came over this device you can see in the picture below, the Duros Tablet PC, environmentally sealed and ready to take a serious punch. It’s designed by Roper Mobile Technology and it’s the largest tablet PC with such an “attitude”.
It features WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity plus the classic GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS and it’s got a GPS, so you’ll never get lost on the way from the North to the South Pole.

Edge Fashion Phone Comes With a Stylish Design
Feeling trendy? There’s a new concept phone in town, ideal for the fashionista in you and it’s called the Edge phone. Don’t mistake it for the connectivity type as it’s only a name coincidence. The Edge was designed by Chris Owens and it will surely draw people’s attention towards you, if it ever comes out (and you have one).
The device features a glass keyboard that can be slided in order to answer an incoming call. Edge also features an LED, that illuminates the keypad numbers/characters with the aid of refraction, adding a special glow to them. It’s a cool design we’re dealing with and a nice cellphone that anyone who loved the famous LG Prada Phone would surely adore.

Concept Toaster Phone is Half Baked
After seeing the movie “Juno” and that famous Cheeseburger Phone, someone must have thought that a toaster phone would be more than fit to please the fans of the previously mentioned device. That “someone” is designer Renata Quintela, the creator of the handset below.
The toaster phone is a concept that includes 2 coloured handsets and a base station that looks like a toaster. Basically they should have called the devices “Toast” phones since they’re more “bread” than cooking appliance. This concept sure looks like a child’s toy, if you ask me, but hey, it’s a non-existing handset so maybe it has some super features we yet don’t know about.
How about a frying pan UMPC as the next concept?

Mystery Sony Ericsson Prototype Slider Leaked
After a prolific announcement session at Mobile World Congress 2008, Sony Ericsson seems to be readying yet another device, seemingly leaked thanks to the folks of the SE4M forums. The handset is branded “SE 123″ meaning it’s only a prototype for now, but I have to say that this is quite a strange design for a SE device.
I dig that metal finish and I have to say that the handset looks like a mid-range or even low-end device, but it seems rather thick, if you ask me.

Nokia Morph Concept Phone Revealed Today
Just when we thought we’ve seen everything from Nokia and their R&D section, we stumble upon this Morph concept, revealed today and created by Nokia Research Centre and the University of Cambridge. The device uses advanced nanotechnology and it’s a flexible handset, transforming into any shape you want it to. It can be seen at The Museum of Modern Art in New York till May 12.
It’s made out of flexible materials, features transparent electronic parts and best of all, it cleans itself! E-paper and Sony’s flexible display are so obsolete once you get to see this baby in action. Imagine turning your phone into a flat surface and then turning it into a normal handset, at the exact time you receive a call.

Nokia Scentsory Concept Phone Can Smell Trouble
The Nokia Scentsory concept phone has got to be one of the most original devices I’ve seen on the Internet. It was first spotted in 2006 and news about this prototype were scarce, at least till now, when we get a chance to take a second peak at the handset designed by Kimberly Hu.
Scentsory is a flexible handset and an ultra-thin one that comes with a couple of sensors which can translate odors into information. This process also works in reverse, as you send the info to another Scentsory device and it turns data into … odor. High tech and mobile phones were all about visual and audio experiences, but now things have reached a new level, so we can stimulate our senses once more thanks to this concept.
The handset includes 2 displays, an LED touchpad, stereo speakers, a camera and a temperature sensor. Sadly there’s no way such a device can make it to mass production, for now… Who knows if Nokia will ever pick up the scent of this beauty and allow us to experience some mobile olfactive delight?

Nintendo DS 2 Concept, Too Good to Be Untrue
Since we’re tired of only hearing PSP 2 and PSP Phone rumours, let’s give good old Nintendo a chance and check out their new DS concept, designed by Phil Nolan. Can anyone say “crisp display?” It seems we’re dealing with a thinner device, which features a quality display plus the same control system Nintendo has been using for the past years.
Its designer states that the console is inspired by the Wii, PSP and iPhone. The quality of the graphics charms us enough to really want this baby for Christmas 2008.

Mitsumi Makes You Go Haptic
Ever wanted to control your cellphone with one hand only? Ever tried doing that and ended up writing poor text messages? Thought so. Mitsumi now has a sollution for you, materialized in the haptic input device you can see in the following image.
This device will be placed on the rear of your handset and it will basically give you one-handed control for your phone. The prototype is a tad thicker than we would have expected but Mitsumi promised to release a thinner commercial version. Meanwhile, as Engadget mentions, Mitsumi’s concept includes “a sheet with small protrusions, a resistance sensitive touch pad and switches”.

Real PSP Phone Surfaces in Stuff Magazine
Stardate 18-02-2008… These are the voyages of the starship Rumorprise, bound to find the PSP Phone any minute now. It’s barely reached planet Stuff (magazine) and it seems that the device will feature a 480 x 272 display, a mini analog stick and finally lack that useless UMD drive. We’ll be playing game via M2 and what you can see above are (as mentioned) scans from Stuff magazine, which I spotted thanks to the folks of engadget. There’s also a supposed launch date in the magazine: July-December plus a few other details you’ll find out by reading the rest of the entry.
Chute Concept Phone, Made Out of Bamboo
Ran out of eco-friendly gadgets? Check out the Chute Phone above, made out of bamboo and designed by Michael Laut. Seems that this material (the bamboo) is becoming trendy right now, as we’se seen more objects made out of it, so this smartphone is a fresh breath of air from all that metal and plastic. The concept emphasizes the fact that bamboo is the fastest growing plant on the planet and it’s also stronger than plastic in some cases, plus being a bio-degradable material. Sure reminds me of Nokia’s eco-friendly phone, but with a pleasant nature-based twist. [via phonemag]
Mystery iPhone Clone, Designed by Spyker
Spyker got its own booth at Mobile World Congress 2008 and it was there to showcase some sort of iPhone clone, but they weren’t too keen on sharing their innovation with the rest of the world. We don’t know the specs of this handset, except for that nasty keypad. I said “nasty” as the “Home” button is placed straight in the middle of the other buttons, while the keys are too close to the edge of the device. A full QWERTY keyboard would have been much more welcome, from Spyker if you ask me… [via phonemag]
Alienware Android Concept Phone Revealed
Seems that the Android platform finally has a “father”, courtesy of Google and Dell and the device is closer to its launch than you might have thought. This is not Dell’s first shot at launching a mobile phone, but let’s say that their PDAs were pretty much the reason for lack of enthusiasm these days. You’re probably wondering what’s the deal with that “Alienware” associated with the Android brand. Well, Dell bought Alienware, which you might know as one of the best tech companies ever, specially when it comes to gaming and multimedia.
Nintendo Wii Concept Phone is More of a Wiimote
Of course we’d like to see a Wii gaming phone, but it’s very unlikely, now that Nintendo has big plans for 2008, in its console segment. Also, in case Nintendo ever decides to join the pack of mobile phone manufacturers, I’m sensing a partnership with Apple, don’t ask why, I just think that the two brands are compatible. About the concept in the image above, isn’t the screen too small for the device? And does it still run on AA batteries just like the Wiimote? [via mobilewhack]
ZTE Cube Phone - Another Mobile World Congress Concept
Let’s call this a “mystery phone”, as that’s what it is. We’ve only got this picture above and tons of assumptions. It might as well be a sci-fi bracelet, pretending to be a phone, but rest assured that there’s a display in there, although you can’t see it. This device seems to be folded, with the aid of 3 hinges and that means that we’re dealing with a rather long phone, when it not gone “cube mode”. The concept was demonstrated at the Mobile World Congress 2008 in Barcelona by ZTE, Zhong Xing Telecommunication Equipment Company. [via pocketpicks]
Braille Mobile Phone, Made in India
This is one original piece of work, courtesy of the Indian phone maker Spice, that developed this device, ideal for the visually impaired. It’s been introduced at the Mobile World Congress 2008 and the manufacturer kept it simple and used low tech, obviously not including a screen.
Motorola MOTOSHOT L11 Linux Phone
The Motorolafans have another goodie for all of you concept phone fans and this one’s called MOTOSHOT L11. It’s a concept device, designed by ravefolk and based on the L series and the ROKR E6, running Linux.
BYB Credo Phone, Inspired by Lexus cars
What you can see above is the beautiful Credo Phone designed by Bogar Bence. The creator of the Credo project claims that the concept had to morph into something else twice and it draws its inspiration from the Lexus cars. He initially branded the device ASUS Aura, but had to change it, as there’s already a concept bearing the name and a logo. So, after being contacted by ASUS, he changed the phone’s name to BYB Credo, but the concept is equally attractive. Check out its full list of specs by reading the full article.
Motorola MOTOPOWER A1600i
While Motorola tries to gain back its momentum and take advantage of the Mobile World Congress 2008 to launch a couple of new phones, we’re drooling at the best “specd” concept Motorola phone ever. I found it on the Motorolafans forum and it’s the MOTOPOWER A1600i, based on the Ming and RAZR series and designed by Ravefolk. Here’s the phone’s impressive features list, as made available by the designer himself:
Lamborghini Reventon Unboxing in Las Vegas
In case you’ve hit the jackpot in Las Vegas and you don’t know what do to with $ 1 million, we suggest you get in line (and start hoping) for a Lamborghini Reventon. The first model has just been sold via the Lamborghini of Las Vegas dealership, while the rest of 19 are already pre-ordered.
Spada Codatronca Supercar
In case you’re planning some really expensive supercar shopping in the following year or so add a Spada Codatronca to your golden list, as the supercar concept is ready to go into production stage. It will be priced at about $400.000 and it will be packing a supercharged LS7 V8 generating 600 hp.
Motorola e680w Features a Wide Touchscreen
Here’s what might get Motorola back on track, in case they’ll ever make it out of the current crisis: E680W, a neat concept phone, featuring a wide touchscreen. Ycyas, the user who posted this on the Motorolafans forums also wants to see Linux EZX UI on this device, making it a worthy iPhone rival. I hope the design team over the producer’s HQ is watching this… [Via motorolafans.com]
PSP Goes iPhone in a Neat Concept Design
Since Sony have already started posting job ads for some mysterious console to come, we might as well speculate, that the console above is a PSP 2. I’ve spotted this conceptual beauty and realized that it resembles a tad the good old iPhone, but I’m still wondering if that’s a touchscreen sliding in there. The classic button layout is here, with an extra analog pad and the L an R buttons probably on the side of the device. Notice how slim and wide the console is? Inspired by Nintendo DS, are we? [via PSP Fanboy]
Nokia N96 a Beautiful and Strange Concept Phone
What you can see above is one of last year’s speculations on how Nokia N96 will look like, through the work of a Photoshop artist spotted on Unwiredview. It’s even more interesting when we get to see the specs of this strange beauty, presumably coming out before the also rumored N99: - 7.1 MP camera with 20x optical zoom
- GPS
- Wi-Fi
- MP3
- Bluetooth plus various other connectivity options
- Live TV and HDTV support
- 8GB storage space
- 3″ display with VGA resolution
This concept phone is based on Symbian 9.5 and it’s a 8.5mm thick device, but its specs are more doable than you may think, since we’ve seen all of them (scattered) on other phones, but never in a single device. Any other feature you’d like in N95’s successor?

PSP Phone Coming From Sony Ericsson?
Just spotted this pic right here on techdigest.tv and was wondering about the possibility of getting the PSP Phone, courtesy of Sony Ericsson, instead of the good old Sony (main company). Also, I’m quite puzzled to see that this concept features a 2.0 MP camera. I guess they would be able to include at least a 5 MP one. With the recent Skype update of the PSP, who needs a phone any more? [Via techdigest]
BMW M1 Hommage Concept
You’re probably familiar with the BMW M1 if you’re a fan of this brand. In case you’re not, let me remind you that 30 years ago the M1 was introduced to the world, becoming an instant hit of the time and the definition of BMW quality vehicles. The model below is a tribute to the original automobile and it’s designed by Paul Bracq and later on by the Italian design house Giugiaro.
CulArt Concept Redefines Fashion Phones
Love wood panels? Have a TV stuffed with wood panels and you’re chopping fire wood all the time? Than you’ll love the CulArt concept designed for the fashionista and smartphone lover in you. Designed by Seungchan Lee, this concept phone is the average smartphone featuring a touchscreen, camera and … slimness.
Bamboo Phone, Most Eco-Friendly Device Ever
Last time I saw a phone that had anything to do with bamboo, I was checking out the Chute concept phone designed by Michael Laut. However, Gert-Jan van Breugel’s concept is far greener that any other device we’ve seen. It’s so green that it even becomes a plant once it’s disintegrated, as it includes bamboo seeds that can grow roots, once the handset’s case is buried.
The case of the Bamboo Phone is made out of bio-plastic and bamboo, keeping it really environmentally friendly. It relies on muscle power that provides it with electricity with the aid of a cranking charger. 3 minutes of cranking equals enough power for a call, plus the device’s display is monochrome and doesn’t eat much battery power.
A couple of statistics from the designer’s site show how we’re saving the planet by using this phone and they’re pretty convincing if you ask me. Too bad that the percentage of such phones is low, comparing to the rest, but at least Nokia’s going green too with the Remade phone.

Mimique Concept, Designed by RKS
This conceptual device, created by RKS Design is great looking and slim enough to catch a trendsetter’s eye. Notice that iPhone-ish interface on its touchscreen? The tiny antenna is old-school (in a good way), while the phone’s shape reminds me of a walkie talkie. Hmm, is it just me or does this concept resemble the good old Sony Ericsson T20 a bit?
I don’t quite understand where the name “Mimique” comes from, but my theory is this: the phone can mimic the colour of its surrounding environment. Now that would be something, wouldn’t it?
Yanko Design also wrote about this neat phone.

Gamer Phone Inspires LG’s Design Team
While Sony and Samsung are showing us concepts and patents of their future gaming phones, Nokia’s still perfecting that N-GAGE platform and seemingly there’s no other competitor in this console/handset niche. Thank God for concepts, then! What you can see below is Gamer Phone, designed by RKS Design in order to “inspire LG’s internal design teams” as they state.
This beauty resembles the PSP a bit, only that it’s thinner and the display goes deeper into the body of the handset, plus it’s a touchscreen. Just hope that it comes with a neat and user-friendly interface, but for now I’m just wondering how am I going to hold this device pressed to my ear when I’m on the phone. Oh well, I’ll just use a headset…

Fli Phone, One Slim Rival For Sony Ericsson Walkman
It’s the trendsetter’s lucky day today, since RKS Design are at it again, introducing another good-looking concept phone, the Fli. It’s a slim device, that reminds of Motorola’s RAZR, but it packs more power and it’s even branded with Sprint’s logo. Could this be a sign of things to come?
The Fli concept phone features a camera and an MP3 player, nothing unusual so far, but it seems to be featuring a top media player and a hinge cover that you can flick in order to open it and answer a call. Hope the designers from Motorola are checking this out, so maybe they’ll get back on track.

LG Recall, a Curved Concept Phone
Io Design sees the future of LG Electronics’ mobile phones taking the shape of the device pictured below. The Recall concept features a flexible hinge, and OLED display and a curved profile that can make any Motorola phone jealous. This slim device uses an uncoventional hinge, staying open after being flipped, just like a measuring tape.

Soft Phone Concept Goes Soft on Your Fingers
We’ve seen phones made out of anything, but still I’m puzzled by this Soft Phone concept, made from cotton. It’s been designed by Qian Jiang and it uses electronic cellulose structures to create an unique, soft and flexible handset.
The Soft Phone is basically made out of a series of discs plus electronic fabric, while its interface is gesture-based. Well, you won’t use normal gestures, like flicking the phone or gently moving it, but you’ll squeeze this cotton wonder, instead, in order to hang-up for example. Deform the touchable surface and the phone feels the input. How cool is that?
You can turn the device’s keypad into a real QWERTY keyboard by using the phone’s collapsible structure, while the phone’s “guts” are held inside a tiny clip made out of resistant silica. What next? A chewing gum phone?
