Ultra lightweight Mazda MX-5 GT unveiled for British endure racing:
Mazda has been touting its "strategic program" to reduce weight on all products, and the best example of how this philosophy of business is in the new MX-5 GT racing cars. The roadster, which will compete in the Britcar Endurance Championship MSA British this year, only weighs 1874 pounds, while packing nearly twice the punch of the standard MX-5. more images and info after the break...
The heavily modified MX-5 engine that produces 275 horsepower - enough juice to propel the roadster light at 60 miles per hour in just three seconds. The race prepared Mazda may also up to 160 mph, looking damn good job with its new paint energetic Verde.
In order to cut hundreds of pounds off the base MX-5, Jota Sport Racing Team removed the internal components, including an internal review of the car near the tank and acid. Doors, like many of the internal components are made of carbon fiber and the windows are polycarbonate. Racing Team has also reduced the height of the engine, adjustable suspension, and added a six-speed paddle derailleur hanger for reading.
