Ecopad Tablet Design Uses no External Power Source for Charging:
What about the tablet, which is environmentally friendly as it gets? Kim Jun-lo, God created slate and Yonggu Eunha Seo Ecopad, pictured below and does not use any external power source, but is based on piezoelectric nano-film, which brings the power of each, or by pressing on the screen.

The device has an LCD screen and I think that goes a little light as honeycombs OS or operating system Chrome. Nokia E-Cu Phone Converts Heat Into Battery Energy

How about a new Nokia design based on eco-friendly technologies? Patrick Hyland created the interesting Nokia E-Cu concept, that can be charged simply by using heat. The handset integrates a thermogenerator, that turns heat into electrical energy, so while in your pocket the device can get charged.

The E-Cu name is a combo between Environment (E) and Copper (Cu) and we learn that this phone is surrounded by a copper layer with engraved heatsinks. You’ll never need a phone charger for this piece of gear, so you’ll be saving Mother Nature again. We have to say that this is quite a slim device, with a solid design and a strong idea behind it.

Revive Smartphone is a Recyclable Gadget, Prone to Upgrades (Video)

We’re once again on the green side of things, thanks to a concept smartphone designed with recycling in mind. Dubbed the Revive Smartphone, this unit was created by Kinneir Dufort, while the UI is the work of Duncan Shotton. Revive can be easily disassembled and recycled, with its components being replaced immediately.

Also, replacing components will help you upgrade the phone and continue its repairs over the years, so basically you’ll keep owning the same device for a long time. There’s also a membership system in the mix, rewarding owners for their long years of handset usage. As far as the design is concerned, Revive uses a curved form factor and a touchscreen display. Aeolus Phone is a Sustainable Piece of Work, Based on Solar and Wind Power

Some of you might remember Cyrene Quiamco as the designer of some very hot concepts we’ve seen a while ago and now shes’s back, with the Aeolus handset, pictured below. This eco-friendly cellphone gets its energy from wind and solar power, charging its onboard battery.

The phone allows the user to charge the device as he goes and we learn that it integrates a power-generating fan, that uses the slightest breeze to generate electricity. This green device will get quite a boost from being attached to a bike or car, as it speeds up and charges the phone....

Jaybird – the Perfect Multimedia Phone

Described by its maker, Terrillo Walls as the “perfect multimedia phone”, the Jaybird handset is a concept packing an 8 megapixel camera. The latter comes with Xeon Flash, 720p video recording and we learn that the phone also includes a speaker and solar panels, for charging purposes.

This eco-friendly phone incorporates a huge speaker for music listening purposes, a front 3.2 megapixel camera for video calls and a 3.2 inch touchscreen display, with a 900 x 600 pixel resolution.
The display is a Super AMOLED and among Jaybird’s specs we must also mention a full SD card slot, HDMI output and a camera button....

Yuxa is a Wearable Cellphone Made From Eco-Friendly Materials

Wearable phones are nothing new, but when this sort of design meets eco-friendliness, something interesting is bound to be created. Mexican designer Veronica Eugenia Rodriguez Ortiz created the Yuxa wearable cellphone concept, that can be worn around the user’s wrist, just like a bracelet or a watch.

The device vibrates to let you know about calls, it supports Bluetooth and it’s made from ecological materials, like plant fibers and biodegradable plastic. This is an eco-friendly phone featuring an OLED display and rechargeable battery, plus an innovative means of communications: sending vibrations to other users. Nokia EC509 Green Core

Nokia’s more busy with real handsets these days, than with concepts, but we’re glad to have stumbled upon such a design, created by Matteo Trisolini. He made the EC509 Green Core phone for Nokia, as an eco-friendly device, that comes with a PRT packaging carton, that can be re-used in order to send back the handset to its manufacturer for service.

Nokia EC509 relies on kinetic energy for powering it up and, as you can see, it features a hole, used to spin and charge the phone, without even requiring a battery. This is a sustainable mobile phone, also featuring a recycled PET display cover, LED battery indicators and rubberised areas. More images after the break...

LG Eco Solar Power Cellphone Uses a Photovoltaic Cell

Designer Aaron Martinez created both this great LG concept phone for the Design the Future Competition and the one pictured below. This new device is the LG Eco Solar Power Cellphone, that charges thanks to incandescent and fluorescent lights, plus direct and indirect sunlight, relying on a photovoltaic cell.

As far as the handset is concerned, it comes with Windows Mobile on board (we don’t know what flavour), a brilliant display with advanced touchscreen technology, LED backlight technology, an LED illuminated magnifier, Microsoft Silverlight browser and a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. Chute Concept Phone, Made Out of Bamboo

Ran out of eco-friendly gadgets? Check out the Chute Phone above, made out of bamboo and designed by Michael Laut. Seems that this material (the bamboo) is becoming trendy right now, as we’se seen more objects made out of it, so this smartphone is a fresh breath of air from all that metal and plastic. The concept emphasizes the fact that bamboo is the fastest growing plant on the planet and it’s also stronger than plastic in some cases, plus being a bio-degradable material. Sure reminds me of Nokia’s eco-friendly phone, but with a pleasant nature-based twist. [via phonemag]

Bamboo Phone, Most Eco-Friendly Device Ever

Last time I saw a phone that had anything to do with bamboo, I was checking out the Chute concept phone designed by Michael Laut. However, Gert-Jan van Breugel’s concept is far greener that any other device we’ve seen. It’s so green that it even becomes a plant once it’s disintegrated, as it includes bamboo seeds that can grow roots, once the handset’s case is buried.

The case of the Bamboo Phone is made out of bio-plastic and bamboo, keeping it really environmentally friendly. It relies on muscle power that provides it with electricity with the aid of a cranking charger. 3 minutes of cranking equals enough power for a call, plus the device’s display is monochrome and doesn’t eat much battery power.
A couple of statistics from the designer’s site show how we’re saving the planet by using this phone and they’re pretty convincing if you ask me. Too bad that the percentage of such phones is low, comparing to the rest, but at least Nokia’s going green too with the Remade phone.
