Sony Ericsson Xperia Play a reality, to be officially announced on February 13 via
Gamers have been on the edge of their seats for quite some time now in anticipation for official news about a handset that incorporates gaming functionalities. Early last month, we reported that the device received an Xperia branding. Further captivating the player’s fancy was a video that showed an avid gamer indulging in the Biohazard 2 (Resident Evil 2) title and hence was proposed to have an integrated PS One emulation.Previously, we had to satisfy ourselves with just rumored images of what was then known as the PlayStation Phone. As enticing as that may be, we now come to the present where there is more dulcet news for gamers. A post on Sony Ericsson’s official Facebook page reveals the Xperia Play handset in all its glory with an official image. Besides the picture, an advertisement for the mobile phone was also posted on the same page. The sneak preview shows the lovable green android figure being surgically enhanced with opposable thumbs as the tagline finally reads, ‘Android Is Ready To Play’.
The company hasn’t revealed any official specifications on the device. As per our earlier posts though, we fathom the handset would be infused with Gingerbread (Android 2.3) OS. From the pictures up on the website, we can see that the device also sports a slide-out gamepad appearance as well as directional buttons and the PlayStation trademark triangle, circle, square and X buttons.
Sony Ericsson Xperia Play was expected to be revealed at CES 2011 held recently but unfortunately, the device gave this event a miss and is now slated to be officially unveiled at the upcoming Mobile World Congress conference. As the company’s Facebook page suggests, an official announcement would take place on February 13, 2011.
